Training overview
The First Aid module prepares designated responders to assess, prioritise and treat casualties in a solar working environment, including the injury types most associated with PV work such as electrical burns and chemical eye contact.
This module forms part of GWO Solar Safety Training.
What this module covers
- Human factors in solar incidents
- Primary survey (C-A-B-C) and catastrophic bleeding control
- Unresponsiveness, airway obstruction and CPR with and without an AED
- Bleeding and shock
- Burns, including electrical burns
- Chemical eye contact
- Heart attack, stroke and hypothermia
- Fractures and head-to-toe examination
- Scenario training set in solar workplace contexts
Practical training
- Controlling catastrophic bleeding with tourniquets and pressure dressings
- Delivering CPR and operating an AED
- Treating shock and managing solar-specific injuries
- Working through realistic incident simulations
Competencies
- Perform a primary survey assessment independently
- Control catastrophic bleeding
- Administer CPR and operate an AED safely
- Manage solar-specific injuries and provide appropriate first response
Learning objectives
- Act independently in recognising and giving lifesaving first aid
- Prioritise casualties using primary survey assessment
- Manage burns, chemical exposure, cardiac events, hypothermia and fractures
- Recognise your limitations, call for help and enable evacuation
